Iran’s Leader Offends a Range of Targets – NYTimes.com.

The leadership of Iran is obviously wacky in a bad way. Because we infantalize people like Amadinejad, we give Iran a pass, “We don’t take you seriously.” At what point to we start to be respectful enough to credit many leaders in the Middle East with meaning what they say.

This is especially important when the “Greater Israel” movement, a particular Jewish wacky, is gaining strength. We need to take this sector of Israel’s public seriously and stomp down hard (in a democratic way).

This website is supposed to help Tunisians select one of the over 100 parties participating in their election. I had a great time being a Tunisian – it would have been nice if my French was better. God Bless democracy – it really is wonderfully messy. This election doesn’t count – it’s the next election that makes for a democracy. Is the government willing to give up power?
